7 Benefits of Creating a Vision Board

Whether you are a top executive of a fortune 500 company, a stay-at-home parent, student/homeschooler, adolescent or your everyday dreamer, everyone can benefit from creating a vision board. Vision boards are beneficial for individuals and families.

A vision board is a composite of words, pictures, and images placed on a poster or background of one’s choice. The imagery represents one’s desires, dreams, and aspirations in one or multiple life areas. It is an artistic tool used to help its creator maintain concentration and focus on particular life goals and dreams.

So, why might you consider creating your own vision board?

Your Creative Self Will Shine

There are many people who think they don’t have a creative bone in their body. In my experience, everyone has the ability to create and be creative. Think of it this way, if you are good at building things, sports, putting an outfit together, doing hair, nails or makeup, decorating a room, organizing things, managing other people, teaching, parenting, counseling, or running your own business. YOU are creative. You have to be in order to do those things successfully. You are an outside-of-the-box thinker and doer. When you create a vision board, the little dreamer on the inside will come alive. And, it’s really fun, too!

Helps You Visualize Your Dreams

Do you ever sit and daydream? Visualize the things you would like to do? Think about things you wish you could accomplish? Vision boards help you translate your vision onto paper in a creative way. No longer will you simply see a bunch of pictures in your head, it will be made manifest.

Provides the Space to Discover and Rediscover your Goals and Dreams

Often times as we grow older, life happens. We sometimes lose sight of our goals and dreams. The process of creating a vision board helps you define your goals and dreams. If you are uncertain, you will rediscover the dreams and goals you once strived toward, and pursue current ones with greater passion.

Motivates You to Pursue your Dreams

A completed work of art that houses your goals and dreams creates a spark that allows you to move forward. Your vision board is a constant reminder of what you are striving toward. A shift occurs in your thinking and the way you see your future changes. Ultimately, you become more invested in pursuing the things you desire in your life and for your family.

Increases your Level of Success

“Write the Vision and make it plain.”  I’m sure many of you have heard this, or something similar, at one time or another. Statistics show people who write down their goals have an 80% higher probability of achieving them. Creating a vision board is the visual equivalent of writing down your goals. The board becomes a “visual contract” with yourself, and a daily reminder to continue moving forward. Success is the goal!

You Will Strive for More

When working towards fulfilling your goals and dreams, and experiencing them come to life, you’ll begin to realize your true potential. The go-getter inside of you, who perhaps has become complacent, becomes re-energized. You’ll begin to seek opportunities that will propel you forward. Life takes a new course. How you feel about yourself, and your outlook on life, becomes increasingly more positive.

You Will Dream Bigger Dreams

Once you see your goals and dreams coming true, one after another, you will set new goals and dream bigger dreams. You will begin to realize there is nothing you can’t achieve with persistent effort, and maintaining focus on the goal…YOUR goal.

The great thing about creating a vision board is the focus is on you. The entire process is based on what you envision for your life and/or your family. The board is a snapshot of one, several or all areas of your life. How one chooses to reach personal goals and dreams is based on the span of time you designate for your board (e.g. six months, one, three or 5 years).

So, what’s stopping you? Tap into your creative self, and start living the life of your dreams!
